It combines three distinct craft elements into one seamless finish: a travertine base texture built from multi-layer plaster, hand-carved veins worked directly into the surface, and a premium carnauba wax polish that seals and burnishes the finish to a soft, luminous sheen that shifts beautifully with changing light.

How Pietra Viva™ Is Applied: The Process

Every Pietra Viva™ application is done entirely by hand, typically over 2–3 days for a standard room. The process begins with surface preparation — walls are cleaned, primed, and skimmed to create a flat, stable base. Next comes the base coat, applied with a steel trowel to build the foundational travertine texture.

Additional layers are added and worked while still wet to create depth and the characteristic porous look of natural stone. Once the plaster has partially cured, vein patterns are carved by hand using specialized tools — no two walls are ever identical. The final step is wax sealing: premium carnauba wax is worked into the surface and hand-polished to a warm, luminous sheen.

Pietra Viva™ vs. Real Travertine: A Practical Comparison

Real travertine tile on walls runs $25–$60+ per square foot installed, requires structural reinforcement for large areas, has grout lines breaking up the surface, and is extremely difficult to modify once installed.
